Feed, Play, Sleep routine…. what to do?!?!?

My daughter is now 2 weeks old & the health nurse yesterday recommended that I start using the Feed, Play, Sleep routine. What she said to do was

1. Feed baby
2. Play with baby – Give baby Tummy Time, use musical mobiles, talk to baby
3. Settle baby in bed after playtime

Ok… heres my problem

Most of the time she falls aslppe at my breat after she is satusfued with her feed & this is when i usually pop her into her bassinette for her sleep, however the health nurse said I should wake her and ensure that she gets her play time….

Should I wake her or just let her sleep??

Problem #2 is…..
When I do wake her or she is awake from a feed & I give her “playtime” she wont settle back to sleep afterwards & cries alot… Gee, this is so confusing!!

Have any of you delt with a simular situation or are able to help me with advice on the situation…. Thank you so so much!!!

the health nurse is talking a load of crap

we are on baby 3 now 10 weeks old but have been told to do some strange things by some of them.

First remember all babies are different and what works for one may not for another. but most babies fall asleep after a feed. This is NORMAL.

yes after feeding get any wind out of him I guess that’s what she meant by “tummy time”. we pick ours up and rub its back or walk around with it for a while, or what ever works for yours.

You can talk when you are feeding her. She will like hearing your voice

If you wake her up then she will be tired and the only way she can tell you that is to cry, So don’t wake her !

When she has had a sleep before she gets hungry then you can play if you wish, but at 2 weeks they can’t do a lot?

We have tried to keep ours awake in the evening so they would sleep longer at night with some limited success

But do try to get in to a routeen of feeding and sleeping this will help alot, if baby goes to sleep at 8pm and always wakes up 1am. then may be you should go to sleep at 8pm so you can cope with being woken at 1am

If you can keep baby awake untill 9pm the they will start to sleep and hour longer ie 2am, We did this by walking around while trying to feed him nore milk.

don’t always rush to feed them when they cry. Its a bad habit to get into every time. YOU are in charge not them
They can wait 5 mins and they will learn to wait . this way you can slowly move feeding times to when you want them.

So now at 10 weeks he sleeps from 9pm untill 5am but I have to get up at 3am to pump out breasts or I end up in a milk wet bed

5am becuase that’s when husband normally wakes for work and feeds him. ( this was great untill he changed his shift start time (

were are all still learning )
