As a Realtor, how long must you keep the hard copies of your client’s property info after COE?

I believe in Arizona the law states 5 years; however, I forgot if that was simply at your broker’s office. I know my broker keeps a copy of all of my clients documents that are legally required, literally everything I have, at once point, I had to foreward/fax to my broker. Does that mean I can shred my copy of my clients info for them? Been a Realtor for 7+ years now and the boxes and boxes of hardcopies are piling up.

Make your life much simpler. I keep client required paperwork copies on CD’s. You can get (or should have in your business) a relatively inexpensive 4 in 1 printer, fax, scanner. It’s a simple process to scan the docs in a scanner in PDF format, and then burn them to a CD.

My agent group does this with all files shortly after closing, and then we burn TWO CD’s, with one going to the client as a small ‘gift’.
