Why is the moon and star the symbol of Islam?
The cresent moon with a star next to it is usually used to symbolize Islam. Does anyone know why these symbols are used in particular, like, what their significance is to Islam? And who adopted this idea?
Because Islamic societies use lunar calender to start fasting in the month of Ramadan, observe Eidul Fiter and Eidul Azha on the appearance of first day of moon to establish the day of their holiday celebrations. Also they use lunar
calendar through out the year for their daily government affairs. Many Muslim countries in Middle East do not use the
Gregorian Calender.
Stars are parts of nature God has created and they were used in old days to determine time in nights while travelling on animals. God created star beautiful and source of light in dark nights when there was no electricity.
Other than this there is no significane of Moon and Star in Islam. Some Christian sects are spreading misinformation against Muslims that they worship Moon god. We have only recently heard this from these born agains Christians who are trying to defame Islam. They have printed some pamphlets in this regards to confuse Christians who are interested to learn about Islam.
Well truth always remain truth and falsehood always fades away with time Insha Allah. They are unable to stop spread of Islam by such cheap tricks.
